Interesting article in the NY Times today.
I think the Jonas Brothers made a big mistake by agreeing to do that TV show...if they had a choice. If they want to act, they shouldn't be in a Monkees / Miley Cyrus type of vehicle.
These guys are too talented, but I fear Disney might be putting them in the wrong vehicles to sustain their popularity. Johnny Wright, their "co-manager", is very experienced; I know he knows this is a problem.
Will their new album pull them out of this downturn? It takes a lot to turn from a Ricky Nelson or Fabian into a Frank Sinatra or Michael Jackson. Few can pull it off.
But Ricky Nelson was AWESOME, and posterity has seen that, even if he wasn't appreciated in his day...
ReplyDeleteI think the Jonas Brothers are going to be fine. I think they have come to be defined by hysteria and Hannah Montana standards that are not achievable or sustainable for ANY artist.
It is unfortunate that their Disney affiliation has set up a wall between them and some potential fans who dislike them on some warped principle, & gets them denied radio play by snarky programmers.
But so it goes...I think they are too good to sit in the Billboard Top 10. That stuff is G-A-R-B-A-G-E. They are too good to be keeping that radio-ruled company. It's a broken system, and they are navigating it surprisingly well so far, in my opinion.
BTW- their TV show is really good! Way better than I expected.
