The Rise of Warner Music: Hold Your Horses

You can tell where I get my news. In any case, investors seem to be supporting Warner Music Group, though I'm unclear why based on its current roster. The success of a single album by Green Day doesn't change the fundamentals, and I think its fundamentals are somewhat weak.

Relatively speaking, I think it's done a mediocre job monetizing its catalog, and while Sony-ATV and EMI continue to grow their publishing catalogs, Warner has taken a step back...though it just hired a good hip hop A&R on the West Coast.

I have a number of friends at Warner, and I wish them the best, but I still think they need more focus on THE MUSIC, especially in light of the fact that it seems the music business might be rising out of the doldrums.
